MID stands for Measuring Instruments Directive" and is a new European Union directive to create a single market for measuring instruments across the EU and was effective from the 30th October 2006. The aim of the directive is to guarantee to users a standard European level of safety, reliability, tamper proofing and accuracy to instruments. For when meters are subjected to certain minimum specified levels of climatic conditions, mechanical environments and electromagnetic interference. "MID" is a replacement for the old UK "OFGEM" approval, also referred to sometimes as "OFFER" approval. It is advised that all electricity meters must be approved if used in a billing situation. This is a requirement of Schedule 7 of the Electricity Act 1989. Prior to the 30th October 2006 approval would have been granted by OFGEM. However, meters approved under previous UK provisions need not be certified in exempt situations. Usually landlord/tenant contracts, so long as a written agreement exists between the parties to dispense with the certification requirements. But any meter must still be of an approved design and be maintained in good working order. The new MID directive refers to ten categories of measuring instruments of which four relate to utility meters. In particular KWh meters fall within MI-003 ACTIVE ELECTRICAL ENERGY METERS.

Look at this for a great idea, do you ultimately need an analogue signal for your current measurement ? Many of the CTs feature a plug in transducer module option.
Just twist of the secondary terminal covers and remove the secondary terminal screws. Screw in the brass transformer to module connecting studs and plug in the NMC module.
Each NMC transducer block will give two different isolated analogue outputs. Also the secondary of the current transformer is repeated, if this repeat facility is not required the supplied shorting link must be left in situ. It is possible to generate 0-20mA and 0-10VDC without any auxiliary supply (self powered module version). Please note that the self powered versions can only be used on current transformers with an output of at least 2.5VA, if a 4-20mA signal is required in all cases an auxiliary supply is required, 24VDC, 110VAC or 230VAC.

Look at this for a great idea, do you ultimately need a relay contact output for your current measurement? Many of the CTs feature a plug in relay module option.
Just twist of the secondary terminal covers and remove the secondary terminal screws. Screw in the brass transformer to module connecting studs and plug in the OCR module.
The OCR modules provide two volt free contact outputs rated at 5Amps 1N/C and 1N/O, connected to an adjustable time delay to avoid nuisance tripping. The OCR modules always require an auxiliary supply, 24VAC is also possible with the OCR module.

Phase Sequence Indicators
Nortonics Phase Sequence Indicators (P.S.I.) are suitable for a range of applications to indicate both the presence of all three phases and the correct sequence of those phases.
Incorrect phase connection will often cause serious damage to the motors of compressors, pumps, gen-sets, heating and ventilation equipment. Mobile generators, remote installations and shore to ship supplies are most vulnerable to such hazzards and are, therefore, ideal applications for Nortonics range of P.S.I.
The absence of a phase is indicated by and a neon and the missing phase is identified. The presence of all three phases in the correct sequence is indicated by the white neon. Incorrect phase sequence is indicated by a red neon.

The Power Rail 303 is a single function electronic kWh meter. Standard current transformer inputs (CTs) allow connection to loads of a few watts to hundreds of megawatts. Accurate measurements of kWh provide repeatable results required by energy management schemes.
Designed for ease of installation, the Power Rail 303 has quality rising cage terminals which allow repeated use and secure termination of a wide range of cable types and sizes. An isolated pulse output is available in the form of a volt free contact pair (relay switch). The contacts close for 100msec each time the LCD kWh counter increments. This output is suitable for direct connection to Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS).
A high speed internal RS485 MODBUS communications option allows all readings to be read remotely. Also available is a KW Maximum Demand option, available with or without the MODBUS option.

Summation current transformers enable the summation of several independant loads on different supplies.
An example three 3 phase supplies to be read by one KWh meter.
Supply 1: 200Amps, Supply 2: 800Amps, supply 3: 1000Amps
Required for each supply are three main CTs of the above primary currents, one for each phase R/Y/B. Also required will be three, 3 input summation CTs, each of the summation CTs must be designated to a phase. The secondaries from the Red phase main CTs should be fed to the inputs of the Red phase summation CT, likewise the same applies for Yellow and Blue phases. The secondary output from the summation CT will then equal the sum of the 3 primary currents:- 200/5 + 800/5 + 1000/5 = 2000/5. The meter being used must therefore be calibrated for 2000/5.
The above example of summation CTs have unbalanced ratio inputs and therefore have to be manufactured to order. Balanced ratio input summation CTs are usually ex-stock.
Summation CTs can also be used for subtraction purposes by reversing the polariry of the inputs. It is also possible to summate a mixture of single phase and three phase supplies.

DC Multi display power meter with relay outputs, analogue signal output, RS485
A Din 96x48mm multi display DC power meter. Measuring, displaying and communicating DC voltage, current, instantaneous power (Watts/KW), import and export Wh/KWh along with hours run. The voltage, current and power parameters also have max and min value recording during power on. The meter has the possibility for specifying up to 4 relay outputs including pulse outputs. The relays can be determined as set points for any of the parameters either low or high. In addition an analogue output also can be requested which can be assigned to any of the instantaneous measured parameters. Lastly, along with all the above mentioned outputs, RS485 MODBUS RTU communications can also be specified.
The VAW meter is particularly suitable for solar energy and wind energy systems, along with electroplating, battery and transport applications. A particular feature of this meter which is especially relevant in "green energy" applications, is that after a certain time of no operator interaction with the meter, the meter enters a "switch down" mode and reduces the power to the LEDs, thus saving money.
